Gilbert W asked:

This is really getting to be boring. I have almost forgotten the real issues in this campaign because of less important issues.

Do you think Americans will ever see beyond skin color and religion?

    Until it’s over.

Depends on how much longer Obama is in the race.

If they ever did, they would elect John McCain. Hey, wait, that could still happen, couldn’t it?
In fact, mark my words – only the republican party will look past the nonsense the Democrats are engaged in, because they believe – honestly – that race doesn’t matter, or gender, either, and win again.
    Mark my words. : )

Yes, only after Obama wins the general election. Until we have someone in the white house that wants change, that will not happen and really after reading these yahoo answers, I think folks like to hate each other.

Even after its over. If Obama or Hillary are not elected, the Dems will cry, “racism…sexism”. If either are elected, the rest of the nation will say it is because of racial or gender siding.

When did we focus on the important issues? I must’ve missed that.

Ever since it narrowed down to two Democratic candidates, all I’ve heard is two people pandering for votes by telling Americans what is wrong in the world and getting them all excited because someone in government “finally gets it” but neither of them has ever laid out a detailed plan for how they’ll fix it and how it will be paid for. Does anyone understand their universal healthcare plans? Honestly… Do you?

Race was injected into this race intentionally if you want my Independent voter opinion. Let’s be realistic, Obama’s taking close to 100% of the Black vote. That fact alone is going to cause a divide when you have two people with virtually identical views.. but one is black and one is white.

I understand the Clinton campaign comments side of that, but that does not account for that percentage of votes. If you look back at the earlier primaries, when the comments that were viewed as racial were said, Obama’s numbers jumped and he took more of the black vote from Clinton. Since that time, I’ve noticed HIS CAMPAIGN spinning things and adding a racial element and they’ve successfully made Clinton the fall guy (or woman in this case) after doing so. The result: 90% or so of the black vote. Coincidence?

If you don’t believe me, I’ll give you a quick example. A Clinton staff member commented that if nominated, the GOP would drill Obama about his drug use and followed up with a list of questions they would probably ask including whether he has ever dealt drugs. It took about 2 hours for that story to become “Clinton Campaign Accuses Obama of Drug Trafficking” – which by itself spun into a “is that a racial slam?” issue.

Doing that has won him votes. Due to the ridiculous manner in which caucus delegates are given (metro areas can see 2-3 times the delegates despite having less voters than geographically larger districts) it’s overwhelmingly won him caucuses. Without those, (prior to Mississippi) he would’ve been tied with Clinton for primaries wins.

I see three clowns, none of which comes close to an ideal Presidential choice and all of which have some questionable stuff on their resume, some unexplainable stuff in their past, no real answers to any of the problems we have in this country, and all three are doing whatever they can to make it into the Whitehouse.

I think America, at least most of white and asian America does see beyond skin color. Most Democrats I know (white) would’ve voted for Colin Powell had he run and the primary totals show that whites will vote for a black candidate (Obama splits the vote usually/sometimes wins it). Black and Hispanic votes seem to be a slightly different issue.

It really isn’t a matter of the citizens of this country making it about race, it’s about the candidates (intentionally or accidentally) and biased media doing it to help. Mark my word; when it turns racial, Obama see’s the benefit. He has ever reason to keep it racial – it helps him win.

it’s about a woman and a black and it’s intriguing to america but it’s hurting the democratic party and they better end it soon or McCain is going to win in November and we certainly don’t need another 4 yrs. of Bush!.
