Linda Dipman

It’s a bird. . It’s a plane. . No! It’s Jesus Christ, Superman, Savior of the world!

A bright light in the form of a snow white dove descended the pinnacle of Heaven landing on the curly dark brown head of Jesus Christ. A sparkle of recognition immediately formed on His face as a flash of remembrance ignited warming His soul.

From this moment on, things would be different for He had a mission from His Heavenly father that He must fulfill. A call that demanded that He needed to listen to the voice of the Spirit of God that would inspire Him to help the lost.

Determined, He walked out of the Baptismal water wrapping His cloak around Him, and was led into the desert to pray and fast. For forty days God opened up the scriptures of prophecy predicted about Him.

At the end of the forty days when Jesus was hungry and His strength was fading Satan saw His opportunity to tempt Him. Jesus, knowing all the pain and suffering He would endure during His ministry, refused to allow Satan to turn Him away from God.

Satan tried to tempt Jesus into allowing food to be His god. He was tempted to harm Himself just to see if God would really rescue Him from death. Last of all, Satan tempted Jesus by promising to give Him all the power and riches of the whole world if He would just bow down and worship him.

In His most weakened human state, Jesus faced temptation down, and passed every test a man would face in this world. Satan snarled and was forced to flee as God’s Angels hurriedly became visible and immediately strengthened Jesus.

Matthew 4:11, “Then the Devil left Jesus; and angels came and helped him.”

Jesus had to convince God’s chosen children to believe that He was the Messiah. They needed to place their faith in Him by seeing the power of God working in His life through the extraordinary miracles He would perform.

They needed to believe in the impossible so they would be willing to be baptized and later receive the wonder working power of the Holy Spirit. They would have to believe that Jesus was more than a man, He was Superman!

A new teaching was dawning and a new concept of how to play the complicated game of life was about to be revealed. No longer would the Law be the only means by which people would be saved. Now an easier path would be laid giving people the ability to be instantly forgiven for their sins.

The Law explained the concept of sin, but believing in Jesus opens up the easy path of grace. Now we only had to believe in Jesus’ name and be baptized. Placing our faith in Jesus would usher in a new day where God’s Holy Spirit would be within each person.

John 3:5-8, “‘I am telling you the truth,’replied Jesus, ‘that no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. A person is born physically of human parents, but he is born spiritually of the Spirit. Do not be surprised because I tell you that you must all be born again. The wind blows wherever it wishes; you hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. It is like that with everyone who is born of the Spirit.’”

Nicodemus was a highly respected Pharisee. He knew all the Laws of Moses and He applied them and taught them rigorously. He came to Jesus in secret because he understood prophecy and believed that He was the promised Messiah.

He expected Jesus to talk about revolutionary ideas. Like taking back the Jewish people’s country from the Romans, instead Jesus was talking about the wind and comparing it to how the Spirit influences the lives of men.

Nicodemus was mystified and questioned Jesus over and over again about who this Spirit was. Jesus was surprised at his lack of knowledge of spiritual things.

John 3: 11-13, “I am telling you the truth: we speak of what we know and report what we have seen, yet none of you is willing to accept our message. You do not believe me when I tell you about the things of this world; how will you ever believe me, then, when I tell you about the things of heaven? And no one has ever gone up to heaven except the Son of Man, who came down from heaven.”

Jesus had to get Nicodemus and all people to think beyond their present situation. They needed to see how this world interacted with a unseen spiritual world. Then they would understand why they needed the supernatural working power of the Holy Spirit.

They needed to understand how the Spirit would give them the ability to fight beyond a normal human’s limited capabilities. This is why Jesus preformed miracles. This is why Jesus Christ was to be more than a man to all people. He was Superman.

We all have enjoyed shows about Superman. How he was impenetrable by bullets and stronger than any man alive. How he rescued people who were about to fall off of high buildings or be crushed by a freight train or car. We sat on the edge of our seats anticipating how he would once again defeat the evil villains who were determined to rule the world.

Superman, although he was powerful and strong, could only be at one place at a time. Jesus Christ Superman can be every where all over the world, all of the time. When we place our faith in Him we have the wonder working power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus did not come as a commander of a legion of men, rather he came as a commander of a greater more powerful army. He came to help people to stand up and fight against Satan and his spiritual army of demons.

1 Peter 5: 8-10, “Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Be firm in your faith and resist him, because you know that your fellow believers in all the world are going through the same kind of sufferings. But after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation.”

Jesus’ saving power of grace level’s the playing field. The Spirit gives Him a greater influence with every human being. The Spirit becomes a teacher within each of us and helps us to win our daily life battles.

The Holy Spirit given to us by Jesus Christ gives us the power to fight against the unseen world of demons. He helps us to resist Satan who is the real villain of the world. Jesus Christ, Superman is the Savior of the world!

Alan Tuttle

Jesus Loves Me, This I Know…what a simple, yet compelling statement of faith! For many of us, this was one of the first songs we learned as small children in Sunday school. Yet, I still find myself humming this beautiful hymn to myself while at work or during my evening strolls around the neighborhood. I find so much comfort in the words, “…they are weak but He is strong” and, to most of us, this part of the hymn is the only one familiar to us.

If you will take a few moments to read the lyrics of this great tune, you will be moved by the beautiful words and messages it contains. As you move through this wonderful hymn, the second verse speaks of His death and crucifixion with the words, “…that I might from sin be free, bled and died upon the tree”. These few words have such deep meaning and sum up the immense love and sacrifice Jesus showed for all of us.

In the third verse is a simple, yet strong testimony of faith urging you to accept Jesus as your savior. “He will wash away my sin, let His little child come in”. Truer words have never been spoken and this is a touching way of referring to God’s son.

To bring this moving hymn to a close, I’ll simply let you read the entire fourth verse because to attempt to paraphrase such a wonderfully written verse would do it no justice:

Jesus loves me! He will stay

close beside me all the way.

Thou hast bled and died for me

I will henceforth live for Thee.

Take a little time and read the lyrics of this hymn. For something that has been there for so many years, it is like uncovering a priceless jewel that somehow appears a little different every time you look at it. Allow these precious words to speak to you and be truly blessed!

Linda Dipman

If Jesus was suppose to be a warrior king, then why did He come as a peacemaker? Why did Jesus associate with the poor, prostitutes, tax collectors and those who were considered to be sinners? Why was Jesus crucified when all He did was good works during His lifetime?

Many great theologians of the Bible try to answer these questions by asking even more questions. They wondered why a man who could heal the sick and perform many miracles would come and not a warrior who would drive the Roman government out of the Jewish land.

Jesus came as a servant to people with a message of hope for those who would place their faith in Him. They expected a king that would lead them to war against Rome. Instead, Jesus told them if a Roman soldier asked you to carry his load for one mile, you were suppose to carry his load for two miles.

They expected a Son of God who would fight against everyone that was oppressing them. Instead, Jesus told them to turn the other cheek. They expected a Prince, instead they received a man who told them to love your enemies and to do good to those who persecute you.

Everything about Jesus was unexpected and totally opposite from the fierce, sword welding man they anticipated. They got a man full of love, a man who had a spiritual wisdom that far surpassed the teachings of the Pharisees.

Jesus was a poor carpenter, a man who told them stories in parables, who refused to draw lines separating the poor from the rich, and treated everyone alike.

Many great historians of the Bible have told the story of Jesus, but many today do not understand why He had to die on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. They just accept the story without really understanding the concept of grace.

Many years ago God spoke to me supernaturally and explained that I had a lot to learn in this world. At the time I thought I was living a righteous Christian life believing that I did not sin. It wasn’t long before God turned everything that I thought I knew upside down and revealed to me the truth about my life and the purpose behind the world.

We live in a teaching world. Each of us has an appointed destiny to fulfill that can only be achieved in a corrupt and evil world. Each of us has spiritual goals that must be accomplished so we will learn the difference between right and wrong.

Galatians 1: 15 & 16, “But God in his grace chose me even before I was born, and called me to serve him. And when he decided to reveal his Son to me, so that I might preach the Good News about him to the Gentiles, I did not go to anyone for advice.”

I learned to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and I began to see the world for what it was. In my quest to understand my call, I immersed myself in the Bible and biblical history books. I found proofs from what I read and through the teaching of the Holy Spirit.

God explained to me that I was to look at the world as if I was in a huge multifaceted game. A world game that challenges us to learn the difference between right and wrong. A game that demanded that I trust Him completely.

Hebrews 11: 1 & 2, “To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God’s approval.”

Adams’ sin created the game of life when he ate the apple in order to be as wise as God. Wisdom demands differences that can only be interpreted through good and bad examples. The only way we can humanly learn is by going through different levels of difficulties in the game of life. Our goal is to master the sin that wants to control us.

This is the reason why grace had to come into being. Jesus changed every concept of life by making it simple for people to receive forgiveness of sin. This means that we can fail the tests we go through in life. We can sin and have the freedom to once again seek forgiveness for our sins. Grace allows us to be bad so we can learn from doing wrong.

Galatians 2: 16, “Yet we know that a person is put right with God only through faith in Jesus Christ, never by doing what the Law requires. We, too, have believed in Christ Jesus in order to be put right with God through our faith in Christ, and not by doing what the Law requires. For no one is put right with God by doing what the Law requires.”

When Jesus refused to be a warrior king He showed us that our world’s complexities extended far beyond the families we were born in or the countries we were apart. He illustrated this to the people by refusing to acknowledge a difference between a Samaritan woman, a Roman soldier or a Jewish priest. Jesus came to bring us a new teaching.

One of the very first lessons that God taught me was to pray for protection from Satan. Satan was created by God and is the source of all evil in the world. He tempts people and persuades them, by the things of the world, to give into their desires.

Galatians 1: 4, “In order to set us free from this present evil age, Christ gave himself for our sins, in obedience to the will of our God and Father.”

Jesus’ ministry was not about the Laws of Moses, but rather about placing our faith in Him for the forgiveness of our sins. This made believing in God easy. The Law demanded ritual sacrifices for sin that put a heavy burden on people. But surrendering ourselves to Jesus and believing in the power of His name brings everyone into fellowship with God equally and sets us free from the power of sin.

During the time of Jesus the Pharisees and Sadducees were the wealthiest families in Israel. They were not only rich, but they were highly respected by the people and the Roman government. When Jesus came preaching a simple path to God, they were outraged because it would destroy their luxurious lifestyles. This is why they wanted Him dead.

Galatians 2: 3-5, “My companion Titus, even though he is Greek, was not forced to be circumcised, although some wanted it done. Pretending to be fellow believers, these men slipped into our group as spies, in order to find out about the freedom we have through our union with Christ Jesus. They wanted to make slaves of us, but in order to keep the truth of the gospel safe for you, we did not give into them for a minute.”

Paul describes in this passage how important it is to hold onto the concept of grace. Grace makes us all equal. We do not have to follow the regulations of the Law because we are all destined to make mistakes that can only be forgiven through our faith in Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3: 22, “But the scripture says that the whole world is under the power of sin; and so the gift which is promised on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ is given to those who believe.”

When you are in a life game you will go through persecutions and difficulties in order to learn from what you experienced. Satan uses families, societies, and governments to destroy anyone who is trying to do what is right. He uses the people of the world to fight against every person who is determined to follow Jesus.

Our world is a teaching world. The only way we can see our need for Christ is for us to go through some kind of injustice to reveal to us why the wealthy and influential are wrong. In order to find right we must experience wrong.

During the time of Jesus many people were not allowed to go into the temple area. People who had deformities from birth to people from foreign descent were not allowed to worship God. This is the reason why Jesus opposed the teachers of the Law over the difference between the Law compared to grace. Grace allows everyone access to God. Grace brings the Holy Spirit into peoples lives and allows people to worship God in Spirit.

We are born into a corrupt and evil world where everyone agrees that injustice reigns supreme. Jesus came to give life to people who were destined to follow God. People who would fight in different levels against injustice in the game of life against all people who love the world.

Jesus came to train up Christian soldiers who would fight against the evil practices of people who choose evil. Jesus is opposite from the world and when we follow Him we simply do not fit in this world.

When Jesus began to talk to me I changed. He showed me how the world is our greatest teacher. He proved to me that if I would place my faith in Him, He would save me from the world.

Pete Koerner

Have you ever really thought about prayer – what it is, or why and how it might work? Most people don’t; they simply live their lives with the same simple understanding they were given as children: “Prayer is when you talk to God.” The biggest problem with that is the limited understanding of a child. Children don’t consider that “talking” is a way of converting our thoughts into vibrations in order to share those thoughts with others; nor do they truly understand the concept of a God that is “All things.” Consequently, most children grow up to be adults with childlike understanding and unfulfilled lives – simply because they don’t understand the most basic principle of life: “As you think, so it is done to you.” Prayer isn’t a religious thing, it is thought; and the way you think will determine the life you live – no matter what religion you subscribe to.

I once had a conversation about prayer with a very religious young man who, after a great deal of discussion about the mind and the power of our thoughts, asked to me, “But you do believe your prayers are answered because of your personal relationship with Jesus Christ, don’t you?” I grew up in a Christian household, going to Christian churches; and I understand the importance of a “personal relationship with Jesus Christ” to the Christian church and those who are invested in it. But the complete lack of conscious thought and understanding in that way of thinking never hit me as strongly as it did that day. At first I thought, “Have you not heard anything I said?” and then I realized that most devoutly religious people are relying on their memory of the things they have been told before – at home and in religious settings – by people they trusted and believed (or were afraid not to believe).

My answer to this man’s question is something that all Christians should consider. Believe what you wish to believe; but don’t let your beliefs blind you to the truth of who you are. Christians aren’t the only people who pray. Prayer was not invented by Christians; nor was it invented by the Church or any religion or religious establishment. Prayer takes many forms – even inside a Christian church. If God is Omnipresent (All things and all places), where exactly are you directing your words or thoughts? If God is Omniscient (All knowing), why vainly repeat the same rituals – or continue to state the obvious? Jesus taught, “As a man thinketh, so it is done to him,” and, “It is done to you according to your beliefs.” If you don’t believe the words He said, you will only get what the world around you gives you. Unfortunately, we have been led to believe that, “Believe in me,” means, “Believe the stories others tell about me,” rather than, “Believe the things I say and the stories I tell about YOU.” Jesus said, “You will do these things and much greater,” and, “All things are possible to he who believes.” Do you really believe this?

Obviously, if your efforts to create or find happiness in your life have been thwarted, or unsuccessful thus far, it is probably easier to cling to a dogma you were given by others than it is to ponder the mysteries of the mind as taught by Jesus and other great spiritual leaders who have always told us, “Man often becomes what he believes himself to be.” It is easier to memorize stories and follow rules than it is to accept personal responsibility for your own life and the thoughts that create it. It is easier because the world is full of people willing to tell you what to think, what to believe, what to say and what to do. But it is also more difficult – more painful and unfulfilling. Thoughts are things; and you are responsible for yours and the things they create. All wise people know this. All religions teach this. This wisdom, in fact, predates religion and has always been taught by the wisest among us.

If you want to keep believing that, in order to have your prayers (thoughts/desires) “heard” and answered, you must believe certain stories or have a personal relationship with a specific entity, then do that. Likewise, if you want to believe that, even if you meet the above criteria, there’s no guarantee that your prayer will be answered, and if it is, there’s no guarantee that the answer will be, “Yes,” then by all means do that. But, if you’re doing all of this because you are a Christian, consider that Jesus was a Jew and He was speaking to and teaching Jews and Gentiles alike the same wisdom that had been taught in their holy texts for thousands of years before anyone could have had a “personal relationship with Jesus Christ.” Prayer works because it is thought. Good thoughts are seeds for good fruits; which is why Jesus said things such as, “Fear not; be of good cheer,” “Judge not,” “Do unto others…,” and “As you thinketh, so it is done to you.” Consider these things. Then, consider your constant mind set and the life that it has created. Finally, if you want to change your life, simply change your mind and the thoughts you entertain.

If these words have upset you, angered you, or caused you fear or consternation, just remember that Jesus had the same effect on most of the people he shared this wisdom with; they already had a religion and religious beliefs they lived by, and these words were shockingly different from the interpretations they had been taught their entire lives by their own religious leaders. In fact, the very people Jesus was trying to help and enlighten sought to harm him many of the times He spoke these words. Further, it was this “clarification” of ancient holy teachings that caused the church leaders to have Jesus put to death. Then consider that Truth always goes through 3-stages: Ridicule; Violent opposition; and, finally, Acceptance. Judgment, fear, anger and violence are always signs that the truth has not yet been realized and accepted. Think about it; then take charge of your life by accepting responsibility for your thoughts.

A.J. Hunley

The world as we know it, is full of many things–both good and bad. At any moment, we can turn on the TV, and see pictures of some form of violence towards a person or group of people, a Nation or group of Nations. The Earth is full of stories of Starvation, Poverty, Pain, Dictatorship, Wars, Floods–You name it–We have it. Then on the other side of the Coin, very little Good News is Printed. Why is that? Is there No good news, or are we a people who thrives on the Bad?

As a young boy growing up in the “Bible Belt”, I was surrounded by Religous opinions and practises. Church was a fun place to go, there were alot of people their, and alot of children my age. I had no worries, just get up in time to go to school on school days, and find my buddies to play with on weekends. A simple Life, no worries, no headaches, no problem–but then I was only 12 years old. They taught me that Jesus Loved me, and Wanted the best for me. They said He would always be with me—You Know–footprints in the sand–only one set?, because He was Carrying me. I prayed every night before going to bed, and the next day was sure, to be Great—-but then–I was only 12.

So–that is the story, a 12 year old boy, raised in ” The Bible Belt “, believing that every Day was great and the next would be even better.

Sad Truth-For many People, Every Day is not Great, and the next day is usually Worse. So how does this happen, I know that many of the problems people face, are brought about by themselves, however not always. Sometimes, people are caught up in situations, they did not choose to be in, and they lose dearly–sometimes everthing they have.

So back to the 12 year old boy, He has grown up now, works Hard, he’s honest, and yes He still prays—Well–Until now!!

He is one of those that got caught-up in a situation, He lost his Job, they just Shut Down. Everyday–He looked for work, and everyday he prayed as he sold whatever he had to pay the bills. The next day, Believing that a blessing was coming his way–but things just got worse again–now he has lost everything and is Afraid to pray. It just seemed like Praying made things worse. He knows that the sky will not opened up and remove all his problems, however he did believe that their was someone who “in his darkest hour”, he could call on. That someone that would not give him anything he could not handle–hard to tell a man who has lost everything including his Family.

So–what do you tell the great number of people, that want to know why the Word has not worked for them, and there are many that lost and are still loosing–people strong in their faith—but even the strongest, will break if they find that they question the Rock Hard foundation that they have walked with their whole life, and now find themselves questioning it’s validity—What do you tell these people. Do you tell them to keep believing? It’s hard to believe in anything, when your losing everything. So—what do you tell someone who has believed since the early days of his childhood, that there is a Creator, that there is a Savior, who cares for them, is there for them, whom they can Call on in the Hour Of Need–as they slowly lose everything–including their faith?

Crystal Robertson

Sandals have been a common footwear since thousands of years ago. In fact, even before Jesus was born, a lot of Romans have already been accustomed to walk around in public with a footwear to protect their feet amidst long, tiring walks and rough terrains. Nevertheless, the oldest type of sandals offered just enough protection to the feet and were most likely to fall apart over a short period of time.

By the time Jesus was around, people started to get acquainted and become more conscious about social class. For instance, the Romans, considered it a big shame to go to public places in bare foot as this was an indication of dire poverty. From this time on, more and more people have felt the big need to wear a footwear especially when they go out to public areas until finally, the time came when both high-class society and slaves as well as ordinary men and warriors wore sandals of the same type. This paved the way to the recognition of the “Jesus sandals.”

The name “Jesus sandals” was coined because it became the most common feet protection during Jesus’ time. Jesus, together with his disciples, were seen walking around to preach the good news in a pair of Jesus sandals. During this time, the sandals have undergone several changes. It became more durable enough to withstand the toughest of wars, the roughest of terrains and the longest of walks. Undeniably enough, this footwear played a big role in Jesus’ preaching of the Gospel.

1. The tough one – When Jesus and his disciples preached, they were used to walking a long way. House to house, town to town, they would travel every day just to preach the good news and share the Gospel with the people – all these were made possible by a reliable footwear which ensured that they would reach their destinations all the time without having to deal with mishaps in between. Through this, Jesus sandals were proven to be reliable, durable and comfortable at the same time.

2. Jesus sandals was everybody’s choice – Jews, Romans as well as the disciples themselves wore this footwear almost all the time. In fact, when Jesus was carrying his cross to Mt. Calvary, everybody walked with him in their Jesus sandals.

Jesus sandals are considered to be among the first most durable shoes ever made. Many Christians became attached to the footwear even up to this day. Commonly, a stiff sole is attached to the foot through cords and straps – all made from leather. This helps keep the foot stay in place despite erratic movements.

Until this day, this footwear remains common especially in countries with warm climate like those somewhere in the Mediterranean. Among fashion geeks, Jesus sandals remain a must-have. Its original makers even deserve a well-deserved credit given the fact that the footwear has managed to maintain its original look and remain minimally changed – smoother textures, brighter colors and the like. Men and women truly enjoy wearing this pair.

Henry Bechthold

It is not surprising to hear our glorious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, slandered by atheists and those from other world religions. However, should such slander be conducted by Christian theologians, preachers and teachers? Should doctrines be embraced that distort the character of our Lord, and which present Him as an unjust, cruel and sadistic tyrant?

We know that the New Testament reveals Jesus Christ as being the Creator and Judge. Therefore, Jesus is the one who determines who does or does not qualify for salvation. And, likewise, Jesus is also the one who determines the rewards and punishments for all human beings. It is in His capacity as Creator and Judge that the character of Jesus Christ is being slandered by two unjust, cruel and sadistic doctrines; furthermore, both of these teachings are contradicted by the vast majority of biblical evidence.

What are these doctrines? The Church’s hell doctrine, regarding the eternal torment of human beings, and the doctrine of Calvinism are the slanderous dogmas to which I am referring.

The Church teaches that Jesus, our Judge, will torment human beings throughout the trillions of years of eternity, as supposed just recompense for a seventy-year lifespan on earth. If hell was limited to one trillion years, that would equal 30,000 years of agonizing torment for each and every minute lived on earth. That equals 14 billion “units” of punishment for every single “unit” of disobedience. Is that equitable justice? Such a system of justice would be considered as cruel, sadistic tyranny if it was practiced anywhere on this planet.

However, what is most important is that this sadistic teaching contradicts the overwhelming weight of biblical evidence. The Bible clearly teaches that eternal life is only available for those who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The wicked have not placed their faith in Jesus, so they have no access to eternal life. Therefore, they cannot live forever in hell. And, there are dozens of scriptures which state that the final fate of the wicked is “death”, not an eternal life of pain and agony. There is not one scripture in the entire Bible that specifically and unequivocally states that people live in hell throughout eternity. There are scriptures which state that the hell fire itself is eternal, which is necessary to punish the devil and his evil angels forever, but not one single scripture specifically and unequivocally states that this is the case for lost people.

When you combine the Calvinist predestination doctrine with the Church’s eternal-torment hell doctrine, the God of Christianity is presented as being far more unjust and cruel than the gods of any other religions. Why? Calvinism teaches that Jesus Christ, because Jesus is presented as the Creator in the New Testament, intentionally creates some people to go to heaven and some to go to hell; moreover, the people themselves have no opportunity to change their predestined fate. The ones who Jesus creates for hell will have no option to avoid their painful, horrid, eternal destiny.

Therefore, according to Calvinism, Jesus intentionally creates people with the sole purpose of being able to torture them forever in the fires of hell. This doctrine becomes even more repulsive when you realize that Jesus said that many more people are going to hell than to heaven, because that means that this one-way ticket to hell will be given to the vast majority of human beings.

Fortunately, the overwhelming weight of biblical evidence also contradicts this sick and sadistic doctrine. Jesus Christ is the epitome of mercy, love and equitable justice; He is not the cruel, unjust, sadistic monster portrayed by Calvinism. The Bible clearly states that God wants “all” men to be saved, and that He does not want any to perish, but that He wants “all” to come to repentance (1st Timothy 2:3-4; 2nd Peter 3:9).

Rassool Auckbaraullee

The Muslim Jesus

by: Rassool Auckbaraullee

In the Name of God, the Benevolent, the Merciful. Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, the Benevolent, the Merciful, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, the Source of Peace, the Mighty and the Wise.

Your reading correctly, no mistake in the tittle Jesus is Muslim. Its nothing new for us Muslims, but very strange for you. You thought we kn nothing abut him. You think we have no attachment. You think we have no right. You thought he was yours. The Jews don’t accept him to be the Messiah, but we do. Well after reading this, you will be educated. For too long I have come across Christians in North America and Europe and Muslims as well, who have no idea that that we believe in Jesus, and in fact hes on our side, and is Muslim. You had no idea we even knew him. That was your ignorance, and get ready for the truth. We believe that we know him more accurately as to the Historical Jesus.

God’s beloved servant Jesus is one of the most influential prophets of Islam. Just as are the other prophets; Jesus is a chosen servant of God assigned to summon people to the true path. However, there are some attributes of Jesus distinguishing him from other prophets, the most important one being that he was raised up to God in Heaven and he will come back to earth again in the end-times. God tells the story of the life of Jesus in the Quran.

The Virgin Mary

In difficult times, a recently widowed woman prayed to God and offered her unborn child to God’s service. She had in mind that her son would become a rabbi. God heard her prayer, but she gave birth to a girl, Mary. From then on, the Lord made Mary grow in purity and beauty. God says, “Mary, God has chosen you and purified you. He has chosen you over all other women.”The Lord give you glad tidings that you shall be blessed with the Word. His name will be Jesus. He will be honored by Him in this world and in the Hereafter and he will have his place among the nearest to His Lord. Quran 3-45. Amazing, this might be difficult for you to believe that we even know Jesus, and his blessed mother Mary, and how much we love them both, because you only heard about Muhammad, and that I do blame earlier Muslims for not addressing Jesus before, but I am doing my best now. The only difference is we love God more, and give him all due praise, because he is the Creator. A very importnant fact about Mary is – she is the only women mentioned by name in the Quran. There is an entire chapter dedicated to her, called Mary. She is also mentioned by name, more times in the Quran 34x then the KJV Bible 19x.

Jesus is mentioned by name in the Quran 25x. Muhammad name is mentioned by name in the Quran only 4x.

A Prophet is Born

In her late teens Mary journeyed east into the wilderness to be alone. She set up a small tent and continued her studies. One day while she was studying and praying, the Archangel Gabriel, also known as “The Holy Spirit,” came to her and announced: “O Mary! The Lord gives you glad tidings that you shall be blessed with the Word. You will be given a son: his name will be the Messiah, Jesus. He will be noble in this world and in the Hereafter. He will be among those who are closest to God.”

The frightened girl gave the famous reply, “My Lord, how can I have a son when no man has touched me?!” The angel answered, “So it will be. The Lord creates what He wishes. He need only say, ‘Be’ and it is done.”

Soon Mary became pregnant, and after the baby was born she returned to her people. When her relatives saw her returning after a year or more of self-imposed exile, and carrying a baby as well, they became enraged and started accusing her of infidelity. They called her a loose woman and crowded her menacingly. Mary froze and could not find the words to speak in her defense, so God caused the baby Jesus to speak. He told the relatives that he was a special miracle from God and would become a Prophet. The people retreated and left Mary alone from then on.

Infusion with the Holy Spirit

Jesus performed many miracles, by the permission of God, as a Sign for believers, other than his virgin birth and his declaration of his prophet hood as a newborn child in the cradle. In fact, these two miracles are sufficient to reveal the extraordinary nature of Jesus. After all, only a miracle could make a new-born child speak so rationally and with faith:

Remember when God said: “‘Jesus, son of Mary, remember My blessing to You and to your mother when I reinforced you with the Holy Spirit (Angel Gabriel) so that you could speak to people in the cradle and when you were fully grown; and when I taught you Book and Wisdom….” (5:110)

Other Miracles of Jesus

Jesus’ disciples even doubted him on one occasion and asked for a miracle to be performed in front of them. They were hungry after many days of hard missionary work and asked Jesus to make a table full of food appear. Jesus complied with their wish, though he warned that anyone who disbelieved after that would be hopelessly lost. Chapter 5 of the Quran—“The Table Spread”—takes its name from this incident. There is no other Prophet that was given the ability to the many Miracles he did with the permission of God. From right after birth to when he was risen from God,

He shall preach to men in his cradle and in the prime of manhood, and shall lead a righteous life.3:46. “O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot. Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle? He said: “I am indeed a servant of Allah. He has given me the Book and has made me a Prophet. And has made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and has enjoined upon me prayer and alms giving so long as I remain alive, And (has made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblessed. Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt.” Jesus did all this before the age of 33, were as other prophets, started performing miracles in there 40′s. Through out his life he was challenged, and performed many miracles from God to prove himself, especially after just being born.

As a Messenger to the tribe of Israel, saying: “I have brought you a Sign from your Lord. I will create the shape of a bird out of a clay for you and then breathe into it and it will be a bird by God’s permission. I will heal the blind and the leper, and bring the dead to life, by God’s authority. I will tell you what you eat and what you store up in your homes. There is a Sign for you if you are believers.” (3:49)

The Mission

Throughout his life, Jesus called his people to live by the religion revealed by God and reminded them to be true servants of God. He instructed them in the commandments of the Injeel (The Gospel) – the revelation granted to him fragments of which may survive in parts of the Gospels. That book affirmed the commandments of the Torah – the revelation granted to Moses some of which remains in the Torah and in the Old Testament – which had by then been corrupted. Criticizing the improper teachings of the rabbis who were responsible for the degeneration of the true religion of Islam, Jesus abolished rules that were invented by the rabbis themselves and through which they derived personal gain. He summoned the Children of Israel to the unity of God, to truthfulness, and to virtuous conduct.

Crucifixion or Cruci-Fiction?

The Quran records that fierce opposition to Jesus came from the leaders of the Jewish community. They called him an impostor and contrived a plot against him. After they succeeded in having him arrested, they tried to get him executed. God says in the Quran that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified, but “it was made to appear so to them.” God wanted to fool them; He saved Jesus and took him to be in Heaven until the hour would come to complete his mission in the end-times.

Who was crucified on that fateful day? The scholars say that the Caucasian Romans may have grabbed the disciple, Judas, who betrayed Jesus instead. Historians claim Jesus said, “Have not I chosen you twelve; and one of you is a devil?” John 6:70

The two looked almost alike, and in the confusion they may have executed Judas instead. In any case, Islam says the method of deception is unimportant. What matters is that people thought that Jesus died, when indeed he didn’t. Also according to the bible why did Jesus say “Eli Eli Lama Sabuchtani” Oh God Oh God Why Have Though Forsaken Me? Matthew 27:45-46 God would not allow any of his Prophets, be tortured. God had always granted all Prophets wishes, because he loved them the most, and was closest too. Why would Jesus be any different. But why was it meant to be perceived this way, I don’t know.

If Jesus was the Son of God, why would the Father (God) allow this to happen, to his son.

Aaron Taylor

I have a theory. It may sound ridiculous to some and elementary to others, but I suppose I’m entitled to throw across whatever hair-brained idea that comes across my overactive mind -as long as I have readers gullible enough to believe I have something intelligent to say.

So here goes.

My theory is that since the Bible says, “God is love”, then that means He actually loves everybody. It’s a simple idea really, but let me elaborate. My theory further says that if God loves everybody, then He must want everybody to be saved. I imagine there aren’t too many who would take me to task on that, especially those who espouse the Christian faith, but let me take this thought one step further. My theory further says that if God wants everybody to be saved, then He must be actively working to save as many people as possible. Notice that I didn’t say that everybody will be saved, just that God loves everybody, wants everybody to be saved, and is working to save as many people as possible. Perhaps it’s my simple mind working overtime again, but I have a feeling the only condition a living creature on planet earth must meet for God to love them and to want them to be in heaven with Him is to be an authentic human being (the technical term would be homo sapien…but I digress).

Alas my simple mind has gotten the best of me-or so my Calvinist friends would say. For don’t you know, oh simple-minded one, the fact that God is love doesn’t mean He actually loves everybody. For God, oh simple-minded one is not confined to love, God is also **** (howbeit a perfect hatred). Many have tried to convince my simple mind that yes, God does indeed love everybody, but only in a creaturely sense. God may love everone as His creation, but that doesn’t mean that He actually has a desire to save everyone, much less pursue a relationship with everyone. God loves all people in a creaturely sense, but not in a relational sense. And don’t you know, oh simple one, the fact that God wants everybody to be saved doesn’t mean that He’s given everybody the capacity to be saved. There are some that God has chosen to be reprobates… even though He still loves them in a creaturely sense.

And then I open my Bible to the story of the rich, young ruler. A man who, if anyone would fit the description of a reprobate, it would be him. The man did’t want to give up his bank account to follow Jesus. Can you get any more reprobate than that? And then I see that the Bible says Jesus, “looking at him, loved him.”

You mean that Jesus actually loved the rich young ruler?! Hmm….I wonder if that means Jesus loved the fact that He created him, or that He actually loved him? Well, I guess we’ll never know.

Johnny Kicklighter

If one didn’t look at the title of Dr. Tyler’s book, “Jesus Christ: Self-Denial or Self-Esteem,” they might think they were reading a book about the life of Christ instead of a refutation of the self-esteem movement. Dr. Tyler takes a different approach that’s characteristic of some of the other books on critiquing self-esteem. He doesn’t exclusively argue that the self-esteem position is defective from a humanistic psychological approach as Paul Vitz does. Nor does he attempt to contrast each heretical thought and compare it to an exhaustive look at scripture references. Instead, he compares the notion of selfism to the life and practices of Jesus Christ. By so doing, he demonstrates that self-esteem flies directly in the face of what Christ was teaching others, especially His very own disciples.

In the introduction, Dr. Tyler makes the case that the new pop culture words, self-image, self-esteem and self-worth have one central focus: self. This being a recent phenomena (within the past 25 years), it has had a significant influence on the church and its teachings. He quotes Robert Schuller who says that a new reformation is needed and that being one centering on self-esteem. (It’s ironic that Schuller uses the word reformation. “The Reformation,” nearly 500 years ago, affirmed the utter ruin and insufficiency of man’s condition and reinforced the complete sufficiency of scripture, grace, faith and Christ-a complete and utter opposition of what Schuller wants.) Dr. Tyler seeks to declare that the Bible’s emphasis is on self-denial, a concept that is apparently anathema to modern day authors. And where are, Dr. Tyler asks, the words of Jesus when he supposedly tells his followers to “love themselves, esteem themselves, accept themselves, believe in themselves, develop a healthy self-image, or nurture feelings of significance and worth?” Dr. Tyler looks for them in the next three chapters of his book as he explores the words, works, and parables of Christ.

Dr. Tyler explores Christ’s encounter with various people. Jesus was always other-oriented in that He was continually about His father’s business. His baptism, the cleansing of the temple and the meeting with the Samaritan women are just a few examples that Dr. Tyler cites as proof. The most striking evidence appears in Christ’s Sermon on the Mount where Jesus tells the crowd how to obtain blessedness (happiness). One would expect to find here Christ giving exhortation on seeking self-affirmation if the self-esteem zealots were true. However, Dr. Tyler cites five Beatitudes that Christ preached which further disappoints the selfism crowd. Christ proclaimed blessedness would occur to those who are poor in spirit, mourn, practice meekness, are hungry and thirsty for righteousness, and are merciful.

Leaving Christ’s words, Dr. Tyler explores the miracles of Jesus Christ. Jesus used miracles as proof of His divine authority, to give substance to His words, and also to demonstrate his other-oriented attitude by offering love and sympathy for mankind. Dr. Tyler gives several examples, healing of the leper and the Roman centurion’s servant, the calming for the Sea of Galilee, the demon-possessed man, to name a few. This shows Christ was focused on meeting the needs of others. Dr. Tyler also leaves the self-love advocates with a question as to where was the person who cried “I **** myself, I feel inferior and inadequate; heal me Son of David;” (not in Galilee apparently).

Dr. Tyler uses the parables to further prove that Christ was other-oriented. He gives a brief explanation on the purpose of parables. He explains the dilemma that many find as to why Christ spoke in parables, i.e., Christ intentionally hid from the disobedient and rebellious His mysteries. Dr. Tyler’s quotation from G. Campbell Morgan seems out of step however as Campbell’s quote muddies the water. It appears inconsistent with Matthew 13:15b. “lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”

Dr. Tyler closes his book by acknowledging that undeniably self-esteemism is found in the scriptures. It’s origin is in Genesis 3:6, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” This was the beginning of mankind becoming self-oriented. It’s clear to the reader that support for current selfism philosophy cannot be gleaned from the teachings or the life of Christ. Christ was certainly focused on doing His Father’s business as well as relieving the suffering of others.
