What are your thoughts on oganized religion?

Somebody Real
I disagree with it personally, but I am being opened minded as far as how good your agrument is. It just seems strange that one text is interpreted in so many ways and each one is solitarily right. I say that people are intended to interpret religion in their own way rather than that of an institution.
No war? People are too greed-ridden to be able to do that. Land, power, pride, and other wealth have been the source of many wars. I doubt religion did anything, but make the war seem more humanely justified.
scratch that “humanely” bit.

I agree but I also feel that everyone should whorship how they want to but that there should also be a united religion to the higher power to bring world peace.

I totally DISAGREE with organized religion. If the world didn’t have religions, there would be NO wars! Period! I find myself to be agnostic (Not sure what’s really out there), but if you do believe in a God, I believe you should be able to practice that belief without a certain religion.

I agree with all that you say. Additionally I feel that religion was created by man.

I don’t like things that divide people from one another. I’m not a religious person myself…but there are some good things about religion.
Charity: most religions encourage people to give time and money to those in need.
Peace of mind: many people dying or near death are comforted by religion (who cares if it might not be true if it makes someone scared feel better).
Civil Society: Some people, sadly need a God figure to scare them into being good (ha! it makes us afraid and unafraid).
Societal Leaps: Almost everything you can think of that humans have done was done in the name of some form of religion. Writing systems, calendars, settling the Americas…for good or bad we did in the name of God.
There are probably more things that religion has done that was good. I don’t think it’s a problem being religious…but there is something wrong with being closed minded and hateful.

Its organized thievery. Tithing has to do with a personal agreement of one man of myth with his god. Millions are lost every year in lost tax revenue due to religion, its a great place for criminals.

I don’t believe in an all powerful, omniscient, intervening God. So if religion is not made by God it was made, and is practised, by people just like me and you.
I want myself and everyone else to be better people; I supsect those who invented religion, and most of those who practise it, want that too.
Nature has made, and is still, making it difficult for us to achieve this worthwhile aim. But nature has made the stakes high and given us the intellect to win out.
Religions are the textual descriptions and desires of our own natures – how could they be anything else if ‘we’ made them.
Look for the good in religion as you look for the good in those who made it.
Accept you part in the bad and work on it.

Most people who practice organized religion got it from their parents. Look up “Mitras” on any search engine. This was a roman god (god of the sun) before the Christians took over Rome. His birthday was Dec. 25th, he had 12 disciples, he had a last supper, and he rose from the dead to heaven on a cloud. Yes im talking about Mitras not Jesus. This was about 350 BC. I believe religion was “made up” for a tool to keep people “in-line”, make them fear the afterlife, so people will act in a civilized manor.

I believe Relgion typically over shadows spirituality. This is a problem because it promotes my way vs. your way. I don’t believe organized religion is neccessarily bad unless it gives rigid instructions on how to be a “Good Follower” within that faith. That kind of mentality is destructive. It will ultimately push people away from a particular faith.

Religion do not cause wars, people cause wars.
People kill each other for passion, an XBox 360, money, jealously, that gang member wearing red or blue, because he is white, black, or latino. There was no religion involvement there.
Some people say Religion have caused many deaths. Who’s to say that Religion hasn’t prevented many more deaths.
Wake up people!!! Stop being Idealistic. You can debate whether Religion is good or bad… but you are not going to get rid of it. That’s reality. Get used to it.

well you should really get organized with anything in life. Even the rastas have organization with in their communities. Through so much past experiences its a good idea to try to develop some sort of rules and regulations. If you dont have that problem then all you need is your Holy place.
