Atheism is nothing , absence of the belief but religion has many doctrines and things to explain and defend .
Isn’t atheism easier ?

If a religious doctrine is right it can be defended without any problems. The reason Christians can’t adequately defend their beliefs is because a lot of the logic they use to validate their doctrines is fatally flawed.

Much easier. Living guilt free of a judging Sky daddy has made my self-esteem and general state of mind much more positive than when i was a believer.

Absence of belief? Nothing? We’re supposed to believe? I don’t think so. As to easier, it is for me because now I don’t have to lie about what I believe.

meh … I am happy in my theism
if you dont believe what I believe , then I am happy if you are happy
I have no need to defend anything

talk , debate , discuss … by all means
I am adult enough to do that

You’re quite right. Atheists have no fortitude. They always take the easy way out.

    “Isn’t atheism easier ? ”

Not necessarily, because (believe it or not) atheism means you don’t have an imaginary comfort-daddy or a scapegoat. You have to be responsible for your own actions, not blame them on ‘temptation; or ‘the devil’.

You also have to face death, without the ‘faith’ that death means you are ‘going to see your loved ones’.

Apart from these things, the atheist has all the same trials and tribulations as any theist, i.e love, hate, anger, frustration, hard work, disappointment, grief, loss, injury, illness, etc…

If you live in the USA and are an atheist, you are also the ‘least trusted’ minority in society.

Which says a lot about the USA.

No… atheists put theists on the defensive with their anti-religion rhetoric.

Atheists shouldn’t even care about religion. Atheism is the belief that there is no god. It really has nothing to do with religion yet most atheists are anti religion as well.

Atheism isn’t easier, in my opinion. (At least compared to religions like christianity) Living a life of atheism requires a greater intelligence, understanding of self-worth, and emotional maturity.

You can’t simply say “God dun it” when you don’t understand something.

You can’t look at your flaws or make mistakes and then go ‘Well, everyone sins. God forgives me. I’ll still get in heaven.’ In christianity, you always have an escape route from admitting you are -wrong-. You can fall back on the bible or your minister’s teachings and claim that well, you’re a sinner, god forgives you, and he’ll miraculously make it all better. You don’t ever have to -account- for anything. You just “ask for forgiveness” of god and expect him to work out your mess. If you’re an atheist, you actually have to rely on yourself. You have to admit that you did wrong and try to find a way to actually fix it, instead of letting the problem rot away and fester until it becomes something even bigger. You have to give up your ego and admit you weren’t right, that you did something -wrong-.

Also in atheism, if you have a problem or a tragedy, you actually have to rely on your strength, maturity, self, and emotional strength to get you through it. You can’t simply push the problem to the side and say god will take care of it and completely deny the probelm. Doing that -will- cause you to snap someday or face some sort of long-term grief.

yes, many do chose the easy way.
some do think that following the rules of the religion can be hard sometimes.
that’s why some people start to change the rules so it can suite their desires and “fit” into the modern world they live in.
eventually they end believing in nothing, simply because they played “God”.

Atheism isn’t ‘nothing’. It’s just non-belief in the supernatural. The vacumn of nothing supernatural is naturally filled by things like ethics, science, values, philsophy and other matters.

In some ways, religion makes life easier. Anthropologists and philosophers say religion was created as a coping mechanism to give emotional support in dealing with the difficult realities of life (eg. if somethign bad happens, people can say it’s a message from above as a sign, rather than just being a bad thing with no meaning); it satisfied people’s curiosity to have answers where there were no answers (eg. all cultures have their own creation myths. This is no coincidence; people are naturally curious and need answers seen as fact even if they’re myths and conflict with science); and to cope with the only reality of life which is that death comes to us all (all religions say you won’t die and will be better off than you are now, which gives hope).

On the other hand, modern science contradicts all major religions. Religions used to attack science, but when science became too difficult to ignore, religion then started to adapt science into the scripture as much as possible. In this sense theism is more difficult than atheism, because theism is a bit like trying to make a square fit into a circle, or trying to justify why the circle should be a square, or saying that the square really is a circle.

One way of illustrating the above is the concept of the universe being created in 7 days and how religion explains this now.

It seems like there are more religious people and when they hear someone doesn’t believe in religion (like it’s easy to believe like common sense or something) they sometimes get all huffy about it, start getting in your face etc, so you have to do homework and know EXACTLY why you think what you do.
