Why is it that people decide to marry/follow a structured religion? In this case, why marry in a Catholic church?

It’s just superstitious nonsense designed to placate the peasants’ FEAR of the utter pointlessness of life and teh finality of death.
Peasants are much easier to manage if they believe in purpose and everlasting life.

Some people feel that the structure adds to the religion’s legitimacy and authority.

Christians ‘follow’ Jesus Christ. The chose to express it a variety of ways and in some sense have a large amount of leeway in how they do many things.

There are advantages and disadvantages to structure and perhaps some structures can be more helpful and some less
I would tend to avoid some practices concerning Mary or practices which might become God substitutes or gospel substitutes and may get in the way of worshiping God
I also tend to avoind over embellishing things adding too much and causing distractions and prefer simplicity.

Advantages of structure, or at least some kinds of structure in the form of early traditions of the church, include including in worship traditions from the early church rather than the whim of men. I go to a conservative Presbyterian church and the variety of sayings and practices form the early church with a blend of styles of hymns chosen because they are God exalting make for a worshipful time. Many elements would be in a mass

An unstructured religion might be undisciplined and comfortable and even hip or fun but in the end ‘no pain no gain’ as the athletes will tell you. The Bible says “all of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way but the Lord has laid the iniquity of us all on Him” Is 53:6 We tend to go astray with free form structureless activities at times and some structure is good.

there is one verse which says satan is the author of confusion
there is another verse which Says God is organized.
in the kingdom of God there is a universal priesthood, and there is a universal religion, the both go hand in hand, God ordained religion on this planet and Adam and Abel were the first prophets. Cain was the first False prophet and master mayhen.

I was raised Christian, but now I follow a Buddhist teaching.

For me, it helps remind me to make myself strong so I can help others. That doesn’t make it a better religion, just the one I follow.

As far as getting married? I think Catholics have some of the best churches!

I am Roman Catholic and I am this way because this is how I was raised by my family. I went to a Catholic school growing up, so i know what I need to know about my own religion. I have also studied a class called ‘World Religions’ in high school. It taught about many many religions from every area of the world and what they do and do not believe. I am Catholic, but that does not mean that I agree with every single thing that the Catholic religion is about. After studying many religions, the Catholic religion is the one that shares the most beliefs with myself and I can relate to the most. I am also interested in Buddhism, but not as a religion, just as a spiritual helper. I do go to church pretty often, but you don’t have to agree with all of the rules. Sort of hard to explain.

I can’t answer why everyone does it, but I can tell you why I chose.

For sixteen years of my life, I was an “agnostic” I suppose. I didn’t believe in anything. I was having too much fun to worry about the afterlife.

Then, one day after I was forced to chose either to go to behavioral rehab or to go to my relatives in Oklahoma, LDS members, and I chose the, as I then put it, “crazy mormons.” Two weeks after being there my older cousin and I were driving our Papa’s old Mustang around. We drove home to get something, and right down the street the Stang stalled. Right in front of the LDS Missionaries apartment, and they happened to be walking outside. SO, i took this as a sign and began the discussions. The first..eh three or four discussions I still didn’t buy into it.

One night I kneeled in my floor and prayed the best I knew how. I spoke personally to my Father in Heaven and asked him to tell me if the Bible and the Book of Mormon were true. I prayed for maybe two hours and the feeling I felt when I finally gave up and lay in bed is indescribable. I felt at peace, and loved. More complete than I ever have in my life. It may sound cliche, but if you ask, you will get an answer.

Joining the church has changed me. I love it more than anything, and I don’t know how I lived without it.

    THATS my answer.:)

Because we might get lost if we didn’t have someone to tell us the way. If others are saying the same, doing the same. Then they all can’t be wrong. Or can they? We are not free thinkers for the most part when it comes to this.

Much is what they are taught if they are raised Catholic then they would believe in Catholic teachings just as those raised to believe whatever a teacher in a public school says would believe in Atheism. Unless one is taught differently then they believe what they are taught.

    because their parents brainwash them.

I think some people are pioneers that are happy to investigate and draw their own conclusions are some prefer the safety of following the pack. The traditional organizations of a nation tend to attract the safety conscience to some extent.

Marry in a Catholic church – often to keep the peace with the in-laws and the partner but bare in mind – when the kids come along.. the family will want them in a catholic school and on it goes… if this bothers you now consider it carefully.

Because Christ founded the structure of the Catholic Church and we choose to follow His will.

    Matthew 18
15Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
18Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

    Hebrews 13:17
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

The question is: Why be a Christian if you do not want to follow Christ’s will?

Jesus Christ and His Apostles set up a structured Church.

Any Church with over three members needs some kind of structure.

Any Church with a mission to “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 29:19-20) needs structure.

The Catholic Church with currently over 1.1 billion members would fall apart without the structure that Jesus Christ and His Apostles put into place almost 2,000 years ago.

    With love in Christ.

well, most people follow a structured religion because of their parents. if your parents go to a church their kids are most likely to go to the same church. its more of a tradition than anything
