religion
Drakim asked:

A lot of Christians and Muslims act like their religion is an obvious choice, and if you don’t convert, it’s your own damn fault for sending yourself to hell. You choose to reject God!

So, let’s say I’m a lost soul. I have no idea what is the correct religion, or even if there is a correct religion. How can I possibly find this out?

Pick the one for which there is concrete, credible, tangible evidence to support their claims of a deity. Oh, wait…. Problem….

I do not have another religion but Love. I follow Jesus Christ because I believe He is the only Way to heaven. If you want to go to heaven, then pick Him

You’re not lost, you’re choosing which path you want to take.

No one truly knows where the destination will be, and those who claim to are fanatics.

You are not lost. You and all of us have just begun life …God said everyone has to go before Him ..notice we ALL must shed this flesh and leave the planet… you did not choose to be born but here you are and so are all of us…

First ..remember life here and now began as a tiny thing..innocent and defenseless … then you began to learn right from wrong simply by living and absorbing knowledge from everything that goes on around you..every word you hear..every tone of voice.. every eye contact … ..

..here is what Jesus laid out as pure and perfect religion before God ( James 1:27 ) . …to visit with widows and orphans during the time of their affliction… and to keep oneself undefiled by sin.

You decide.. you live..you work..you breathe..you continue to learn until you leave your flesh… and then God decides on each of us on the day of judgement. There is not one single religion which can save your buttocks. Only God decides who keeps going.

What I suggest is that you don’t listen to people, but seek for God yourself. Ask Him, even if you’re not sure He’s real, to show you what is true or not.
I also recommend your write a journal of your quest, and keep track of what you discover.

You really shouldn’t be asking random strangers to invite you to a religion. And most people stick with the religion they grew up in. Though in their twenties and mid thirties they usually change to Catholicism.

  13. Jonny on October 25th, 2008 7:40 pm

Well in my religion our beliefs are personal truths not complete truths, so my religion might not be right for you (it isn’t for many), so only you can decide.

Look at what the Holy Spirit does in peoples lives. The fruit of the spirit are love, compassion, longsuffering, kindness…….Look at it as a relationship with the creator, not a religion. You have religious people that are not truly being lead by the spirit. They are governed by the flesh.

choose the one that fills your heart with joy. search knowing when the right one comes along, you’ll know & be home.

no religion may be right for you. choose what’s right for you, not what someone else tells you is ‘right.’

Pick a path that you are comfortable with. Your chosen path doesn’t have to make sense to others, but the important thing is that it makes sense to you.

Start seeking, how else? Read the religious texts of whatever you are interested in, and then perhaps some of the more respected apologetic writings on each. I don’t know about Muslim writings, but I believe that C.S. Lewis’ books, such as Mere Christianity, is a great place to start if for no other reason than he set out to disprove Christianity and ended up by becoming a believer. The best of luck to you!

I AM A CHRISTIAN, so and I have had plenty of “religious experiences” to validate my belief that yes there is a God. So I say to you in all of this mish mash of watered down Christianity of today’s belief in God. He is the only one that tells you of a life of etetunity. alla gives preys on your lust by giving you virgins, if you kill your self and take a few non-believers with you.

Do your homework, even Jesus said seek and you will find. He was speaking of the truth, mostly. As this is a commonly use phrase.

Research the Churches history. I have met a few converts, and talked to them they have found that the Catholic Church is the true Church of Jesus. But in talking to them I find that they have not had a full conversion of the heart and they will still go to hell as a result of it.

I met this one girl in Miss. she was a convert; she researched her history and found that the Catholic Church was here first and then came Protestants. One needs to have understanding of human nature, logic, and common sense, a brain and knows how to use it, not over analyzing everything. But digging for the truth. Jesus kept it simple, and man complicates everything, this is too why most people do not get it.

It is so simple people over look it. Jesus’ message of salvation.

    Try this quiz:

I am a Jew because the faith of Israel demands no abdication of my mind.

I am a Jew because the faith of Israel asks every possible sacrifice of my soul.

I am a Jew because in all places where there are tears and suffering the Jew weeps.

I am a Jew because in every age when the cry of despair is heard the Jew hopes.

I am a Jew because the message of Israel is the most ancient and the most modern.

I am a Jew because Israel’s promise is a universal promise.

I am a Jew because for Israel the world is not finished; men will complete it.

I am a Jew because for Israel man is not yet fully created; men are creating him.

I am a Jew because Israel places man and his unity above nations and above Israel itself.

I am a Jew because above man, image of the divine unity, Israel places the unity which is divine.

If you are born in America, chances are you beleive Christianity is true and Islam is false.

If you are born in Afghanistan, the opposite applies.

The ONLY intelligent conclusion you can draw is that they are both false.

There is no correct religion. People have, unknowingly, made religion a contest of popularity, and Love for God has taken a back seat.

It has become an idol, people have become blinded by it.

Don’t seek religion, seek God within your own heart, that is the only True Church, it is there you will find all of your answers. :) Let God influence you, not man. :)

Love is the greatest aspect of God, not religion. No where in the bible does it say you have to belong to a religion before you can Love God, that is a very sad myth….

Allow your conscience to guide you through this.

One day, we will all stand before God. He will be a righteous judge.and judge us by the 10 commandments.

The Bible says that if we have ever broken one part of any of the commandments, we are guilty of breaking them all.

    Let’s see how you do.

Have you ever lied? (white lies, fibs, half truths all count)

Have you ever stolen anything? (doesn’t matter how small, a piece of gum counts)

Have you always obeyed your parents?

Have you ever lusted after someone you weren’t married to? (Jesus said that is adultery of the heart)

The punishment for breaking His commandments is hell.

Jesus Christ doesn’t want you to go there though.

Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus came to earth as a man. He lived a perfect sinless life. He was crucified and took on the wrath of almighty God for the sins of the world.

He said, “Except a man be born again, he shall not enter the kingdom of heaven”.

How do you get born again? Jesus commands all men everywhere to repent. (turn away from your sins) and trust Him as Lord and Savior. If you do, He will save you from your sins.

Christianity is the only one that provides for the remission of sins.

Well – you can go “church shopping.” I am not kidding. I know lots of people who have done it. It certainly makes sense if you are going to be spending a few hours a week someplace – that you’d make sure it’s a fit.

Also – you can try going to:

and taking their belief-o-matic quiz. By answering questions about your beliefs in different areas – they can tell you what religion you are.

When I took it – it said I was a Unitarian Universalist. I attend a Religious Science church – which is much the same – but too small to be one of the religions listed on the beliefnet.com page. It will also tell you if you are an Atheist or an Agnostic.

I don’t think anybody should choose a religion based on somebody telling them that THEIR religion is the true one. Also – we shouldn’t just go with what our parents choose for us – and quite honestly – parents should not choose a religion for their children. It is our job to guide them – and teach them about their options. Religion is nothing more than a tool to help us be better people – and some people really don’t need or want the help of a tool.

There is no CORRECT religion. But there is a correct religion – (or absence of a religion) for YOU.

    Namaste!!

Unfortunately the media has played a part in your view of Christians and Muslims. They always pick the lunatic fringe because it makes a better story. The best way is to read a book on various religions and check them out. There might one that suits your personality and core belief system that will put it all into context for you.
I became a Christian in the Anglican tradition because I loved the idea of Grace, the mystery of God and life, the relationship Christ had with the women of his time and the church itself.

Study the ones you are interested in, look inside yourself, and pick one. If the evangelizing of Christians and Muslims bothers you, you’re probably not drawn to either of them, but they are only doing what they feel they must do.

What a lot of people forget is that in the OT/Christian Bible there are many admonitions to tell people about repentance from sin, not only to save the souls of those who hear, but also to absolve YOURSELF from all guilt. Christians take this to heart, and rightly so, I don’t want anyone’s blood on my hands!

In the US, there are few places that a person could go and not hear the gospel. I don’t feel that I need to evangelize door-to-door where I am. Maybe that it the wrong attitude to take, but I have seen people turned away by the zealous undertakings of misguided Christians pinning people to the wall who are not interested.

If you hear evangelizing on R&S Yahoo, that’s because this is an open forum, this would be the last place i would go if I didn’t want to hear people evangelize. It’s like going to an Italian restaurant and complaining that the only thing that is served there is Italian food. LOL

I always thought Christianity was like that commercial that said you must buy it now or else they won’t sell it anymore. They pressure you to convert, honestly I couldn’t follow a religion that only gave special rights for people within the religion.
